On Saturday, October 31, 2020, Smithville traveled to Jesse James Park (Kearney, MO) for the Class 4 District 8 championship race. The top two teams plus the top 15 individuals would qualify for compete in MSHSAA Championships in Columbia, MO. With dry conditions and excellent temperatures for the end of October, all teams were ready to race for the opportunity to compete at the state meet.

The Smithville girls team took first place, with seniors Olivia Littleton and Lily Cutler taking first and second respectively. Joining the girls team for state is Riley Kochanowicz, Emma Chevalier, Avery Bannwarth, Anna Redline, Genevieve Kochanowicz, Rhiannon Maynes, Paige Ruehter, and Helaina Wald.

Unfortunately, the Smithville boys team came in third place, losing by one point to Kearney. Although the Smithville boys team did not qualify as a unit, four boys individually qualified for state: Quinton Wilson, Regan Dunn, Isaac Edson, and Carter Massie.
