Nick Dakon and I sat in my classroom together for 3 hours this afternoon, I’m lucky enough to have Nick as my A+ tutor and he came to a simple conclusion…

“We always play and shoot better at home.”

Boy, was he right. Our guys had the chance to sleep in their own beds last night, get up and go through their normal school routines, shoot on the same rims that they’ve grown up on and play in front of their home crowd and they did not disappoint for those fans. After watching the film and thinking back to the game itself, there’s no other conclusion than we just played well across the board in every facet of the game. Offensively, defensively, out of bounds plays, everything, we did our jobs tonight.

At the 4:00 minute mark of the game, it was 2-2. We would go on to win the next 24 minutes by 36 points, pouring in 10 threes over that stretch and having an eFG% of 56.3%. We had a season best 1.31 points per possession over that stretch and had one of our best defensive nights of the year, holding Winnetonka to 0.65 per possession.

What we did best offensively was share the ball. Time after time, we made the extra pass to a teammate tonight, resulting in 15 assists. More importantly, our body language and the way we responded to the extra passes was special. It was just a great team-first performance.

Leading us in scoring tonight was Ryker Edwards who had 24 points in 24 minutes of work this evening. He was such a stud this evening. +30 on the night when he was on the floor. Dante Cox had his best performance of the season, having 12 points, 6 rebounds and a +/- of +28. Cody Simoncic also had a +28 on the evening to go along with his 8 points and 3 rebounds. Nick Dakon had a personal season best w/ 5 assists this evening and I think his stat line points to the type of night we had. Nick had 0 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists but found himself with the 4th best +/- on the team this evening w/ +18. And that’s what it is with this group. They just don’t care whose night it is. They don’t care who scores. They don’t care who starts. They don’t care what they have to do. They have learned to only care about doing whatever they can do on that night to make it a game and win. Rhett Foster, another example, +18 on the night, despite only having 2 points and 4 rebounds. He was so, so good defensively and all of these guys were open because Brad Schram must be respected and guarded closely with the way he has been shooting the ball. Brad had 6 points tonight but was also +18 and opened up a ton of driving lanes for Keltin, Ryker and the rest of the guys. Keltin Nitsche continued his good play with 5 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists, +15 on the night. Derek Boyd gave us a great 7 minutes tonight including a HUGE stretch just before halftime which really gave us some momentum, he had 6 points and was +12 on the night.

Tonight’s win moved us to 7-4 which matches our win total from last season and that’s not a fact lost on our guys. We’re happy to get back to .500 in the best Class 5 conference in the State of Missouri and we’re looking forward to the immense challenge of taking on Ruskin at home on Monday!

Big win tonight by our JV crew tonight, too. They didn’t have their best effort but found a way to scrap out a 45-40 win and they move to 7-1 on the season. They will have 4 games next week in 6 days and have a chance to win them all. Excited to see what they can do!

Great Friday Night in The ‘Ville!
